Why Kenya
Big sky, big wildlife, quiet conservancies.
Kenya is the theatre of the great migration on the Mara side of the border - but its deeper character is the conservancy model. Beyond the national reserve, wildlife lives on community and private land where tourism directly funds protection. The result is quieter, more personal safaris: walking, night drives and far fewer vehicles, in landscapes that range from open savannah to volcanic hills.

Where to go in Kenya.
Seven destinations, each with its own character — start here and follow where your curiosity leads.
The northern reach of the Serengeti–Mara ecosystem — reserve and conservancy, resident wildlife and the movement of the herds.

Key places - Masai Mara
The Mara - and the conservancies around it.
The Masai Mara is the northern reach of the Serengeti ecosystem. Between July and October the wildebeest may cross the Mara River - a spectacle that is never scheduled and never guaranteed. We position guests in the conservancies bordering the reserve, where you can walk, night-drive and avoid the crowds, then enter the reserve for the crossings when conditions allow.
Key places - Amboseli
Giants beneath the snows.
Amboseli is the classic elephant landscape - large-tusked herds moving across ancient lakebeds with Kilimanjaro rising behind them. It is intimate, photogenic and unhurried, and it pairs naturally with the Mara for a complete Kenya arc. See the Amboseli destination page for the full picture.
Key places - Laikipia and Samburu
The quiet conservancy frontier.
North of the Mara, Laikipia's plateau and Samburu's arid north offer a different Kenya: walking safaris, horseback rides, night drives and rare northern species like reticulated giraffe and Grevy's zebra. This is where Kenya's community conservation story is strongest - and where the wildlife experience is the most personal.
Landscape variety
One country, several landscapes.
Kenya's geography rewards moving between regions rather than staying in one.
Open savannah
Rolling golden grass and big skies across the Mara and beyond.
Rift Valley
Volcanic hills, lakes and escarpments along the Great Rift.
Private conservancies
Community and private land where tourism funds protection and fewer vehicles.
Kilimanjaro backdrop
Amboseli's elephants framed by the snows of Kilimanjaro.
Signature experiences
What a Kenya journey can hold.
Mara migration
The herds cross into the Mara - never scheduled, always dramatic when they do.
Amboseli elephants
Large-tusked herds moving against the Kilimanjaro backdrop.
Laikipia walking
Walking and horseback safaris on quiet conservancies.
Northern endemics
Reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra and other rare northern species.
When to travel
Big skies change with the rains.
Kenya rewards two main dry windows - and the conservancies are good year-round.
July to October
Migration months
Wildebeest may cross into the Mara - crossings are never guaranteed and depend on the herds and the rain.
January to March
Dry and green
Warm, dry and green; excellent for Amboseli elephants and quieter conservancies.
April to June
Long rains and renewal
The long rains green the land; fewer visitors and lower rates, with some camp closures.
Migration timing follows the herds and the rain - never a fixed schedule. We plan around current conditions and keep expectations honest.
Who Kenya may suit
A country of space and variety.
Migration watchers
Travellers drawn to the Mara crossings - with honest expectations.
Photographers
Big skies, dramatic light and the Amboseli elephant backdrop.
Conservancy travellers
Those who value privacy, walking and community-funded protection.
Cultural curiosity
Travellers who want to learn from Maasai and Samburu communities respectfully.
Community-connected conservation
Tourism that funds the land it depends on.
Kenya's conservancy model is one of East Africa's clearest conservation successes: wildlife lives on community land, and the visitors who come to see it help fund its protection. We work with conservancies that employ local trackers, support community programmes and keep vehicle numbers low - so your journey contributes directly to the place you came to experience.
