Travel inspiration
There is no single best time.
East Africa rewards travel in nearly every month, but the experience changes with the season. The right time depends on what you want from the journey — density of wildlife, quiet landscapes, young animals, dramatic light or lower visitor numbers.
Dry season, roughly June to October
Vegetation thins and wildlife concentrates around water, making game viewing easier and days cooler and drier. It is the most popular period — book well ahead for the best camps.
Green season, roughly November to May
Rains green the plains, many animals have their young, and visitor numbers and rates fall. Driving can be slower in places and rain usually arrives in dramatic afternoon bursts rather than all day. The light is exceptional.
The migration moves with the rain
The wildebeest migration follows grazing and rainfall, not a timetable. River crossings and herd positions shift year to year and week to week. We plan around current conditions and honest expectations — never a guaranteed sighting.
Dry season
Easier viewing, cooler days, busiest camps — plan early.
Green season
Young wildlife, dramatic skies, quieter vehicles and lodges.
Migration
The herds move with the rains — indicative timing only, never promised.
By country
The right month for the Serengeti is not the right month for the Mara.
