Kilimanjaro · 6 Days · Hut-to-Hut
The classic Kilimanjaro route — hut accommodation, direct ascent, and Africa's highest summit.
Route Overview
The Marangu Route — affectionately known as the "Coca-Cola Route" — is Kilimanjaro's oldest and most established trail. It is the only route offering hut accommodation throughout, making it the preferred choice for trekkers who prefer a more sheltered mountain experience.
AT ONE operates the Marangu Route over 6 days — including one acclimatisation rest day at Horombo Hut — which significantly improves summit success rates over the standard 5-day programme. Our guides are Kilimanjaro Association-certified with a minimum of 100 summit ascents.

The Journey
D1
1,830m → 2,720m
Enter the park through montane rainforest filled with colobus monkeys and Kilimanjaro's dense vegetation. The trail is wide and well-maintained — a gentle introduction to the mountain.
D2
2,720m → 3,720m
The forest gives way to moorland. Giant senecios and lobelias appear as you gain altitude. The views back toward Moshi open dramatically, and Kibo peak becomes visible.
D3
3,720m · rest day
An essential rest day for the 6-day programme. Walk to Zebra Rocks or explore the moorland. Altitude headaches are common here — hydration and rest are paramount.
D4
3,720m → 4,703m
The Alpine Desert Zone. Vegetation disappears. The saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo is vast, barren, and mentally demanding. Arrive at Kibo Hut in early afternoon — sleep by 6pm.
D5
4,703m → 5,895m → 3,720m
Midnight start. The crater rim at Gillman's Point (5,685m), then the final push to Uhuru Peak — the highest point in Africa. Descend via the scree slopes back to Horombo Hut.
D6
3,720m → 1,830m
A long, satisfying descent through moorland and forest. Certificate collection at the gate. Transfer to Moshi or Arusha for rest and celebration.
